http://mydisk.ge/download.php?id=0C8A6D97EDThis 1981 recording found Waters being produced by rocker Johnny Winter, who had brought Muddy back to form on the Hard Again album. Winter was smart enough to surround the great one with musicians who knew his music intimately -- regular band members like Calvin Jones, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, Luther "Guitar Jr." Johnson, and Bob Margolin dot the lineup -- and Johnny keeps his own excesses in check on a nice brace of tunes. While most of the tunes here are recuts of older Chess material, Muddy's versions of Slim Harpo's title track and his own "Champagne & Reefer" are worth checking out. Not the place to start a Muddy Waters collection, but a good one to add to the collection after you've absorbed the classics on Chess.

http://myftp.ge/download.php?id=44E12A701Coleman Hawkins has a distinctively mellow sound, which on this disk he applies to both some gorgeous ballads (Quintessence and Don't Love Me) and some upbeat so-called "folk" songs (especially Go Lil' Liza and Swingin' Scotch). I heard Go Lil' Liza playing as background at a Briazz one day and it just captured me immediately, and thanks to Amazon I was able to track this down. There are so many incredible jazz LP recordings that were made in the period 1955-70 or so where great musicians like Hawkins would just bring some musicians into a studio (or in this case Rudy Van Gelder's living room), look over some charts, work out some arrangements rather quickly and then lay down some amazing, improvised tracks like these. The playing is flawless yet totally spontaneous

http://myftp.ge/download.php?id=3F12D22F1The third and final Shakti recording from the 70s. The songs here are shorter than those on Shakti and Handful of Beauty, but no less impressive. The novelty of combining Eastern and Western musical styles had worn off and McLaughlin sounds comfortable. This allows for memorable compositions and interchanges, rather than the blistering virtuosity that characterized the first two releases. From the intense ("Daffodil And The Eagle") to the joyful ("Happiness Is Being Together"), Natural Elements stands as a milestone in McLaughlin's illustrious career. - by Robert Taylor, AMG
