Lotito's dream Rome derby
Lazio President Claudio Lotito hopes that “sport will be the winner” in the Rome derby tomorrow night.
“The derby Lazio-Roma on March 19 must remain in the history of Italian football as a great example of sporting spectacle based on respect and solidarity,” said the patron.
There has been a history of crowd trouble between these sets of fans, but recently the rapport has become more cordial.
In fact, to encourage a more relaxed atmosphere the Curva Sud usually populated by Roma’s ultras will welcome the father of Gabriele Sandri and the son of Vincenzo Paparelli.
Sandri was the Lazio fan accidentally shot dead by police at a motorway service station in November, while a firework thrown by Roma fans in the derby in October 1979 killed Paparelli.
March 19 is also Father’s Day in Italy, so it is set to be an emotional moment for all in the Stadio Olimpico.
“Imagine having your children by your side, showing them an example of enthusiasm, joy and support,” continued Lotito.
“It must all be done in the respect of opponents who also have the right to battle for victory.”
Lazio are currently holding a media silence to help the team and Coach through a difficult time in their season
