Beni wants to bag Agg
RAFA BENITEZ will launch a ?4.5million bid for Daniel Agger as the Liverpool boss looks to increase his defensive options.
Benitez is worried he has no experienced cover should Jamie Carragher or Sami Hyypia get injured.
Although Agger is only 20, he has proved himself on the international stage after coping well with Wayne Rooney during Denmark’s 4-1 victory over England in August.
Benitez has been tracking the Brondby player’s progress for months and has now decided to move for him in the January transfer window.
The Kop boss also intends to use the January sales to bag a right-sided midfielder.
Steven Gerrard is set to occupy that role for the third successive game when Liverpool go to Aston Villa tomorrow looking for a third straight win.
The Reds have recorded clean-sheet victories over West Ham and Anderlecht after switching Gerrard from central midfield to the right.
Benitez hailed his skipper’s attitude to the tactical switch. He said: "Moving Steven to the right has worked.
"He is one of the best central midfielders but he knows at this moment we need him in this position.
"He is a player who can do many things, moving inside when he needs to and staying wide and crossing at other times.
"We are looking for the right player but Steven can do the job temporarily."
