In a few days Filipe Luis passed for been one of the favourite players of the fans to be one of the most heated ones. All related to his behaviour after Deportivo refused to accept the offer coming from Barcelona FC.
The negative of Filipe Luis to appear in a photo taken on Monday at Abegondo’s pitch has raised all kind of criticism against the left-back defender. The position of the club was explained by its spokesman, Rafa Carpacho, “Filipe asked for permission in order to not appear in the picture, and since it wasn’t an official photo, the club accepted his petition.” He said to reporters.
But the polemic was already on the papers, Depor Sport attacked the attitude of the player in its Tuesday’s issue arguing that it was “an unfortunate move trying to put pressure to Deportivo in order to accept the offer of Barcelona”. Meanwhile, Deporte Campeón said that his attitude was “disagreeable”. Website Riazor.org also took position in the conflict attacking the player arguing that “he was biting the hand that feeds him.”
The reaction of the public has been also noticed, in the last days the player has been insulted in his Facebook page by irritated fans. And it’s that the player confessed some days before that he was willing to go to Barcelona, but that he wouldn’t put pressure on Lendoiro in order to accept the offer of the Catalan club.
However his acts have been completely different, firstly when he ended his vacations before the expectations and started “to chase” Lendoiro in a trip that took him to Madrid, a trip that didn’t bring good results for him but that caused a sensational reaction in the media, later with his refusal to appear in a photo of the squad, another issue that caused sensational reports in the media, specially in the Catalan one.
Maybe the most irritating thing for the fans is to see Barcelona FC as accomplice of this situation, because it’s clear that the Catalans have negotiated with the player without reaching an agreement with Depor first, something that’s prohibited by FIFA rules. Further than that, Barca is trying to take advantage of the negotiation as it reduced its offer from €9 to €8.5 million, something still considered as insufficient by the club.
And it’s that its president, Joan Laporta, already said in public that he will not match the expectations of Deportivo for Filipe, “We will not present any 'scandalously scandalous' offer for any player.” This also was a response to Valencia’s president as he was asking for a 'scandalously scandalous' offer for striker David Villa, another target of the Catalans.
No matter what, these pressure measures are not affecting Augusto César Lendoiro, an expert in tense negotiations and that has remained in silence about the case. The media in Galicia is convinced that the president will not give up if Barcelona does not offer at least €15 million for the player. In the meantime, it was informed that one of the agents of Filipe, José Carlos Lages, arrived on Tuesday to La Coruña in order to negotiate with Lendoiro. Barcelona is trying to close the negotiations on this week because coach Guardiola has requested a left-back defender before Sunday, day in which the Catalans are starting their pre-season stage.
