Player Ratings
César Sánchez - 8.5 - The veteran made some great saves, and was probably Valencia's best player.
Bruno Saltor - 7 - Nothing to flashy, but got the job done against Serrano.
David Navarro - 7.5 - Fine performence from the former Mallorca man. Formed a good partnership with Dealbert.
Ángel Dealbert - 7.5 - Similar match as Navarro. Made some important clearances, and didn't get caught out of position.
Jérémy Mathieu - 7 - Kept Arana quiet for most of the match. The only negative about Mathieu was his passing, which was not very good tonight.
Joaquín Sánchez - 6 - The winger had a couple of good passes, but that was it. Never really got involved in the match.
Carlos Marchena - 7 - Solid performence from the captain. The spine of César, Navarro, Dealbert, and Marchena shut down most of Racing's attacks in the middle, pushing the opponent's out wide.
Éver Banega - 6 - The Argentine's first quiet match for los Che. He couldn't get his passing game going on the choppy Racing pitch, but did contribute defensively.
Juan Mata - 6 - The #10 has a couple of nice touches, and some decent buildup play, but like Joaquin, never really got into the match.
Miku - 5 - The Venezuelan couldn't find his groove, and was right subbed of five minutes into the second half.
David Villa - 7.5 - Was a menace for the Racing defense to deal with. Had a few shots on target, and looked the most likely player to score for Valencia before getting injured.
Substitutes
David Silva - 6 - He replaced the quiet Miku, and didn't do much better himself.
Nikola Žigić - 7 - Made an instant impact. First, he won a defensive header from a Racing corner, then scored a goal four minutes later. Did well up front on his own.
David Albelda - 6 - Nothing special. Did his job in midfield and helped preserve Valencia's clean sheet.
