A humble hotel porter delivers champagne to the Manchester United legend as he relaxes with Miss World Mary Stavin on a bed awash with cash after a successful night in a casino.
Then, he famously asks: "Tell me George, where did it all go wrong?"
Fast forward to the United of today and throw the same question to striker Michael Owen.
The one-time wonderkid of English football who fired 40 goals in just 89 internationals.
The Liverpool legend racked up a stunning strike rate of 118 goals in 216 appearances for the Reds.
All of which earned him an £8million move to Real Madrid in 2004 - but, suddenly, the wheels began to come off.
He made just 24 starts - 15 of those in the league - and a year later signed for Newcastle where he suffered a catalogue of injuries, was jettisoned by England at 28 and experienced the pain of relegation.
But, last year, there was hope of a comeback when he signed on a free for Alex Ferguson's United.
Yet, since then, Owen has been in the starting line-up only 12 times; has scored just three Premier League goals - and is no longer an automatic first choice.
But, just like Best, Owen does not entertain the idea that it has gone pear-shaped at all.
As United kick off the new season against his old club Newcastle tonight, he insists there is no place he would rather be.
Owen said: "I'm 30 now and understand I won't play every game.
"I've had a lot of injuries and don't have the pace I once had. But life evolves.
"I've changed my style, I'm a different type of player now and, because of that, I reckon I've still got four or five years at the top.
"And I much prefer that to be at United, where I train every day with some of the world's top players. Where I work every day with arguably the best manager who's ever lived.
"Where I play in front of such great fans and in an amazing stadium such as Old Trafford.
"And I'm really happy I now live back at home after having been away for five years.
"I prefer all of those things ahead of playing every game for a team that's only ever going to be 12th in the league.
"Now that's when I would struggle to find the motivation.
"So 'd rather play half the games but be at United with this great manager, these great players, at this great stadium and in front of so many fanatical fans."If United play 60 games again this season, I can still play a big part.
"I've been talking to Gary Neville about it and we all know the importance these days of having a quality squad so the manager is able to rotate his players.
"So I have to work hard every day to make sure I am always ready and available because I'm sure I will get my chance."
Owen is not sure whether he will get it against the Toon tonight but a return to the limelight beckons - and who would begrudge him that after all he has had to endure in recent years?
