He is, they say, an express request from Luis Enrique, and it is easy to see why. While Barcelona are evidently still a very different prospect to Atletico Madrid in terms of their style, there is a common work ethic shared between Simeone's and Luis Enrique's teams. Under those intensely demanding conditions, Turan has still managed to produce consistent magic. There is little to suggest he wouldn't do the same at Barca with a greater number of like-minded creative talents around him.
One of the finest dribblers in Europe, he excels at sucking opponents in then bursting away in a tight space, using his exceptionally good close control to wriggle out of pressure. Fire a ball at him at any height or weight, and, nine times out of ten, he will kill it with perfection, setting himself up to stride forward and cause danger. There is something Andres Iniesta-like in his capacity to escape from unfavourable situations in which he was previously outnumbered, all the while making fools out of defenders who thought they had won the battle.
In many ways he is the perfect example of a Luis Enrique midfielder, and would be part of the transition from the Xavi era at Barcelona to a more explosive modern version. Turan is not someone who bases his game on probing patience, but spontaneity and individual genius -- someone who will both fight for the ball relentlessly and still have the energy and inspiration to carry it effectively when won back. The prospect of Turan linking up with Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez should be an enticing one for neutrals.
