Chelsea could need at least 4 of 7 potential signings to compete for Champions League next year
Top of the list is Timo Werner, followed by goalkeeper Mike Maignan of Lille. Next up is Nathan Ake, the former Chelsea youth player now playing for Bournemouth.
Then comes Edinson Cavani, well into his 30s but a potential pickup for free this summer should the Blues want him. Ben Chilwell seems our prime option at left back according to the rumours.
Then the list is closed out by Dries Mertens and Moussa Dembele, alternative attacking options.
There is no way we would want, or indeed need, all 7. But if we really want to challenge for the Champions League next season, we will need to strengthen in goal, at left back, add depth up front and possibly spend big on a new central defender.
So that could mean signing 4 of these 7, or alternatives of the same type.
It could indeed be a very busy summer for Chelsea.
