(IRB.COM) Monday 11 February 2008
Georgia continued their impressive start under new coach Tim Lane with a 22-7 victory over Romania in Tbilisi on Saturday, a result which sees them climb to a new high of 14th in the latest IRB World Rankings.
The only nation to improve their position over the last seven days, Georgia’s gain of 0.71 rating points to 67.25 after their victory at Stadium Lokomotiv has come at the expense of Canada and Romania, who slip one and two places respectively.
However while
less than one hundredth of a rating point now separates Georgia and Canada, they remain more than four points behind the nation above them in Tonga. They do, though, have a 1.24 rating point cushion over Romania in 16th.
Romania’s defeat in the Georgian capital has seen them slip closer to another of their European Nations Cup rivals in 17th ranked Russia with little more than a tenth now separating the two.
Georgia’s victory, which consolidated their place at the top of the European Nations Cup standings, was the
only one to result in positional changes in the IRB World Rankings, although the RBS Six Nations did see changes in rating points.
