Henry: No extra pressure
Sportal.co.nz - 12/07/2009
Graham Henry says he is feeling no greater pressure heading into this year's Investec Tri Nations than he has in his previous campaigns against Australia and South Africa.
Henry and his assistant coaches Steve Hansen and Wayne Smith have come under fire after lacklustre displays by the All Blacks, albeit minus several of their star players, against France and Italy last month.
The drawn series with Les Bleus and the scratchy win against the Azzurri opened up debate again about the trio's controversial reappointment after the failed 2007 World Cup bid.
Henry and Co faced a similar situation heading into last year's Tri Nations, particularly against the Australians being coached by Kiwi Robbie Deans, who lost out to Henry for the All Blacks job and crossed the Tasman.
But the All Blacks eventually came through to retain the Tri Nations trophy and Bledisloe Cup before completing another grand slam of the Home Unions at the end of last year.
The recent below-par efforts and the news this week that the coaches had their deals extended through to the end of the next World Cup in New Zealand in 2011 has reignited some of the post-World Cup sentiment.
