CAPE TOWN (Reuters) - The governing body of South African Rugby (SA Rugby) has reached an agreement
with related stakeholders to cut R1.2-billion ($64.69 million) from its expenditure for the remainder of 2020
as it battles to stay afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic.

SA Rugby announced the plan on Friday, which has been agreed by
provincial unions, players and other rugby industry employees.

It reduces expenditure around competitions (49.7% of savings),
makes cuts in other operational budgets (37.3%) and reduces salaries (13%)

“It was a complex process to find alignment with a number of entities representing

wanted to opt out of their contracts without penalty closed on Friday,
with Bok hooker Malcolm Marx the most high-profile defector
as he quit the Lions and has been tipped to move to Japan

Unique Springbok Showdown will take place on 3 October
with teams picked by Rassie Erasmus and Jacques Nienaber.

Following that, local competition between seven franchises

Two trophies will be up for grabs when South African domestic rugby returns.
Seven franchises will play for [1] Super Rugby Unlocked and [2] Currie Cup honours.
All log points from first COMP will be carried forward into second COMP.

First round of matches - from 10 October to 21 November - will be for
Super Rugby Unlocked honours, with the winner coming from whichever of
Bulls, Sharks, Lions, Stormers, Cheetahs, Griquas [ხრიკვაზ] or Pumas boasts most log points.

Current PRO14 season concludes with Final on March 27

Lions are set to tour South Africa for 8 matches, from July 3 - August 7,
WITH final three of which are tests against world champion Springboks

16 teams in Rainbow Cup will be divided into 2 "pools of 8", made up of
2 Irish, 2 South African, 1 Welsh, 1 Italian and 1 Scottish club

Each team will play 1 game against each pool opponent and
sides that finish top of their pools will face off in final on June 19
