Updated: Marvel Studios officially announced Saturday afternoon that Drew Goddard is out and Steven S. DeKnight is in as showrunner of Marvel and Netflix’s 2015 13-episode Daredevil TV series. DeKnight has also been named an executive producer.
The change became necessary when Goddard was named writer/direct of Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off Sinister Six last month. Goddard has written the first two episodes and will continue to serve as an executive producer of Daredevil.
DeKnight is a genre-TV veteran with three seasons of Starz’s Spartacus on his showrunning resume, along with stints on Joss Whedon’s Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dollhouse, and the CW’s Smallville.
Daredevil will be the first of five series co-produced by Marvel and Netflix and filmed in New York for 2015-16, and will be followed Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage, which will all lead into the team-up ‘event’ mini-series The Defenders
