ტაკს, წარმოგიდგენთ ერთ კაი ტიპს, ჩელისტსა და კომპოზიტორს, ფილიპ შეპარდს: There have been several occasions over the past month or so I’ve felt ready to give up on dark dose. I’ve felt I don’t have the adequate time to make regular updates and to allow the blog to go a week without any contribution is awful. Then every once in a while, I get a wonderful e-mail from some quiet soul who has been reading dark dose all along and takes their time to let me know. Getting such e-mails rejuvenates my desire to go on.
This past week I received such an e-mail from Philip Sheppard. What was so incredible about this particular contact, was the fact Sheppard is a professional musician (and professor of Cello at the Royal Academy of Music in London) and, get this… played with none other than Jeff Buckley. Sheppard writes:
“I was fortunate enough to play cello for Jeff Buckley at his last ever UK appearance. He is without a doubt the most musical person I’ve ever met in my whole life - he was consumed by it in a beautifully ‘wasted’ way. We performed Dido’s lament by Purcell at the Meltdown Festival. Apparently there is a tape out there… one day I’ll get hold of it!”
As I viewed his web site, I also learned he has been a professional cellist for 30 years, making his debut concert at the age of three, and touring the US and Europe at the age of nine as a concerto soloist. He has collaborated with Scott Walker, Oasis and David Bowie. If this wasn’t enough, he recently improvised soundtrack solos for Harry Potter “The Goblet of Fire” in collaboration with Jarvis Cocker, is featured soloist in “Hotel Rwanda” and plays solo on all episodes of the BBC drama “Silent Witness”. To be honest, his bio just goes on and on. It’s amazing. Check it out.
Knowing someone such as Philip Sheppard is a reader of dark dose (as well as the wonderful regulars) really excites me. While certainly not one of the busiest mp3 blogs out there, Dark Dose seems to have become a tight knit group of passionate music lovers. I couldn’t ask for much more.
