10th ANNIVERSARY REISSUE OF DEBUT ALBUM - OUT NOW
On 25th September, Placebo will release a 10th anniversary re-mastered version of their classic eponymous debut.
‘Placebo’ was originally released in July 1996 and went on to become one of THE seminal rock albums of the 1990s. The first single from the album, ‘Teenage Angst’, charted respectably at number 30. It was the second single from the album - ‘Nancy Boy’ - which would set the Top 5 of the UK chart ablaze. ‘Nancy Boy’ was a rallying call-to-arms for outrageous and androgynous boys and girls; an antidote and two-fingered gesture to the laddism of Britpop, resulting in a blistering TOTP performance. ‘Placebo’ went on to go Platinum (300,000 sales) in the UK and sell over 750,000 worldwide, cementing the band’s place as one the truly great guitar-pop bands of the 1990s, which continues to this day - recent album ‘Meds’ has sold one million-to-date, taking the band’s total sales to eight million.
The album re-issue will feature the original album re-mastered, plus exclusive, previously unavailable demo ‘Paycheck’, and fan club only demo ‘Flesh Mechanic’. Also included are b-sides ‘Drowning By Numbers’, which was the b-side to Placebo long since deleted second single ‘Come Home’ - released on Deceptive Records; and ‘Slackerbitch’, which appeared on ‘Nancy Boy’. The second disc will be a DVD made up of all the promo videos from the album and previously unavailable live and TV performances, including a Glastonbury 1998 performance of ‘Lady of The Flowers’, and a hilarious Big Breakfast roadshow performance of ‘Teenage Angst’.

This summer Placebo has headlined 11 European festivals and triumphantly return to the UK to make their fourth appearance at Reading Festival - also their 10th anniversary appearance – where they’ll be the penultimate band on the main stage on Sunday 27th August (as well as playing Leeds Festival on 26th), further proving their status as one of the UK’s most important and enduring bands.
