11/2006 --- Review of Borat Soundtrack in BBC News
…Returning to the real music on the real soundtrack to the fake persona of, Borat there is one standout number. It's from a legendary group of farmer-musicians in Romania's Moldova region. They're called Fanfare Ciocarlia. In keeping with the laughs of Borat’s movie, this is the band's hot and humorous cover of “Born to Be Wild." Some might call Borat a misogynist and a racist. But with this soundtrack, the royalties will now flow in for these Romanian gypsy musicians. They'll have Borat to thank, even though the ethno-musical connection between Romania and Kazakhstan is thin at best.
For The World, I'm Marco Werman
