http://letsgogetit.blogspot.com/2007/09/ga...-1-limited.htmlhttp://rapidshare.com/files/63653723/GDNord_SNJazz.rar The Dutch/Belgian duo provides the ultimate mix of urban jazz, delta blues and groove dance. Central theme is love (Something In My Mouth en Lobster For Love), in every sense of the word actually: for jazz, blues, for Chet, Marvin and Miles. Guest appearances by Dorona Alberti (extremely sultry) and by world star Paul Carrack (Ride On) make the album even ore impressive. You're My Medicine, already a hit, features the original vocals of Marvin Gaye's classic soul hit Sexual Healing from 1982. Posthumously dueting with Alberti, the man is still alive. Breathtaking!

When Albert Cummings recorded this live album at the historic Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield, MA, the audience was so enthralled and supportive they became part of the performance in a way that's rarely heard. Albert and his band responded with a blistering set of great originals and killer covers of Zeppelin, Little Feat and Muddy Waters tunes. With producer Jim Gaines at the controls and Albert's incredible display of guitar virtuosity and deep emotion this is one live performance that is bound to become a blues rock classic.

Chet Baker - Cool Cat (1986)

2. Round Midnight (10:30)
3. Caravelle (5:47)
4. For All We Know (5:06)
5. Blue Moon (6:25)
6. My Foolish Heart (7:38)
Personnel:
Chet Baker (vocals, trumpet)
Harold Danko (piano)
Jon Burr (bass)
Ben Riley (drums)
http://rapidshare.com/files/203132009/cb1373cc.rarA pleasant set, distinguished for decent versions of Harold Danko's "Swift Shifting," Jon Burr's "Caravelle," and the Rodgers and Hart tune "Blue Moon," the trumpeter plays with a competent quartet that spurs him on. Although clearly weary, Baker's trumpet has some fire left, while his vocal articulation is below par. Still, the "feel" is always there, and even Baker on a less-than-perfect day is filled with joys. He solos on trumpet at length, at least as minimalist in style as ever. At this stage in his career, he remained capable of spine-tingling versions of "Round Midnight," with the trumpeter's laid-back breathy approach laying down perfectly placed notes. Pianist Danko is always worth hearing and drummer Ben Riley is his usual tasteful self. Bassist Jon Burr is a surprise, his big, juicy tone a pure pleasure. The tunes are just a tad different than usual, so Baker was forced to suspend his autopilot and dig in. Only partially satisfying, there are nonetheless enough worthwhile moments to recommend this one.
Chetbakertribute.com:
In the 1980's, Chet sang a lot during performances, mostly to rest his chops between trumpet solos. But Chet really did like to sing, and you'll hear some of his best here. Sometimes his vocals get so soft you have to turn up the volume just to hear him. Once again, Chet has surrounded himself with excellent musicians, particularly the great Harold Danko. Danko and Jon Burr also contribute some original material for Chet. I love the old standards, but I wish there were more tunes from those guys on this CD.

http://rapidshare.com/files/203150729/cb1171-08q.rarDon't confuse this album with Chet Baker Quartet Featuring Russ Freeman. That other album is a compilation of cool jazz tracks from 1952 through 1954. This album is a fast hardbop session from 1956.
Chetbakertribute.com: "On this last meeting of the two jazz greats the billing has changed, with Freeman getting him name before Baker's. It is Baker that shines, however. 1956 was arguably Chet's best year for bop, and this CD stands along side The Route, Chet & Crew, and Playboys as some of the hottest music he ever laid down."

Rateyourmusic.com:
Very strong, and by far the best Dick Bock-produced album by Baker. This was recorded after Chet's return from his European tour of 1955/56; Russ Freeman had left the quartet before that tour, for which Baker then recruited Dick Twardzik. After Twardzik's death and Chet's return to the United States, producer Dick Bock arranged this session with Baker, Freeman, Leroy Vinnegar (b) and Shelley Manne (dr).
It is instantly obvious how much Baker matured during the tour. Quartet is a direct progression from his Paris albums and quite distinct from his previous Pacific Jazz releases. Among other things, Baker had discovered and dived deep into hard bop in Paris, leaving much of his former cool jazz vocabulary behind. Quartet shows him charged, energized and alert, and there is a distinct influence of Clifford Brown noticeable here. Baker burning through "Love Nest" is one of the most exciting moments of him on record. There are few albums that are similar showcases of Baker as a fast, burning, virtuoso trumpet player, but this is one of them. Highly recommended.
AMG:
Although this 1998 CD reissue features the Chet Baker Quartet (in what was a reunion session), it was originally released under pianist Russ Freeman's name. All but two of the eight songs on the set ("Love Nest" and "Lush Life") are compositions by the pianist and they often feature both challenging chord changes and swinging solos. Baker, who improvises on the date with a fair amount of fire while sticking to his middle register, emerges as the key soloist although Freeman sounds quite original within the genre; bassist Leroy Vinnegar and drummer Shelly Manne play tastefully in quiet support of the lead voices. All of the music was previously reissued as part of the complete Chet Baker Quartet limited-edition Mosaic box set that has since gone out of print. Well worth exploring.

This is where you really start to hear Chet find his own sound. He starts branching out on the two My Funny Valentine's found here, and his recordings of Stella By Starlight sound like the one's he did in the 1980's. The recording quality is pretty average in Volume 1, but it improves in Volume 2 and 3, especially considering how noisy American Jazz clubs used to be. Zing Went The Strings of My Heart is amazing, and it's one the fastest tempo tune Baker ever recorded. On several cuts, he plays the "Boo-bams", a bongo-type instrument invented by his friend Bill Loughborough.
AMG:
This third and final Pacific Jazz volume of the Chet Baker Quartet in concert continues with more music from the August 1954 date at the Tiffany Club in Los Angeles (some of which was heard on Vol. 2 in this CD series). Baker is in great form on trumpet throughout this performance, accompanied by pianist Russ Freeman, bassist Carson Smith, and drummer Bob Neel. The group is well-rehearsed and in top form, beginning with a turbocharged run through Charlie Parker's "My Little Suede Shoes." There are some songs previously covered in different versions on the earlier volumes ("Line for Lyons," "My Old Flame," "Carson City Stage," as well as Freeman's "The Wind" and "Russ Job"), but these versions not only measure up to the earlier ones but in several cases improve upon them. Freeman's inventive bop solos are another highlight of this release, especially in up- tempo tracks such as "Zing Went the Strings of My Heart." For novelty, Baker also plays boo-bam (a series of small drums made of timber bamboo) between his trumpet solos on four tracks, though he generally remains in the background on the instrument. For a nightclub recording of this era, the audience is surprisingly quiet and one isn't distracted by clinking glasses, ringing cash registers, and the occasional drunk talking at the top of his lungs. Although all of the selections previously appeared on a Mosaic box set, that long out of print collector's item would command a hefty price tag, so this individual CD, along with the Pacific Jazz CDs which preceded it, is a highly recommended and much more affordable alternative.
