Tribute bands are often bland affairs, because they become too predictable, while often omitting any artists who played with the deceased artist. Fortunately, this third CD by the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band mixes veterans who worked with the trumpeter and talented younger players who acquit themselves very well. Trombonist Slide Hampton contributed a fresh chart of Dizzy's "Manteca" that is a bit more introspective and less percussive and shouting, with potent solos by pianist Cyrus Chestnut. Tenor saxophonist Jimmy Heath scored the subtle, hip treatment of Kenny Dorham's "Una Mas," showcasing alto saxophonist Mark Gross, trombonist Douglas Purviance, and baritonist Gary Smulyan. Vocalist Roberta Gambarini's solid performance of "'Round Midnight" (and Hampton's fresh arrangement) trump those who claim that this landmark Thelonious Monk composition is recorded all too often; there is always room for a top-notch recording such as this one. Gambarini also guests in Heath's setting of Tadd Dameron's bittersweet ballad "If You Could Seem Me Now" and Hampton's snappy setting of "Lover, Come Back to Me." Nor should the brass players be overlooked: Roy Hargrove's lush playing in "I Can't Get Started," plus his comic vocal in the jive piece "I'm BeBoppin' Too," are complemented by Greg Gisbert's searing trumpet and Michael Dease's brief, effective trombone solo. ეს არის სტინგის და მისი ძველი ჯაზ-ბენდის Last Exit დემო ჩანაწერები (პროფესიონალური ჩანაწერი, ხარისხი - მოსმენადი, რადგან სტუდიაა). Last Exit-მა არც თუ დიდი ხანი იარსება, მაგრამ ძალიან ცნობილი გახდა ამა თუ იმ წრეში.

ჟანრი - ჯაზ-როკი. მოკლედ, ყველანაირად სასიამოვნო მოსასმენია. ალბათ, მოგეწონებათ.

სამწუხაროა, რომ მაინცდამაინც ამ ჟანრს არ მიაწვა შემდგომ წლებში სტინგი, თუმცა კარგად ვიცით, რომ სოლო-კარიერის დროს მაინც დიდი მნიშვნელობას ანიჭებდა ჯაზურ ელემენტებს.

Eugen Cicero (1940-1997) was a Rumania piano virtuoso with full command in both classic and jazz , recorded numerous records bewteen 1965 and 1997 based on Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Schubert,Lizst and other classic repertoire which he unites harmonically with swing and jazz improvisations. He was active mostly in Europe during his lifetime , a cult figure in Japan but is relatively unknown in US. However, his artistry should never be overlooked.
What differs Eugen Cicero from Jacques Loussier trio, Claude Bolling etc. is he employs a much wider mangitude of jazzy/funky medlodic line, voicing and rhythm plus a much wider repertoire. He is less serious about maintaing the original classic framework and more flexible about expanding the expression of his musical ideas.
Jazz fans usually find crossover not real jazz, classic fans will feel crossover material superfical. However, this album is not crossover or smooth jazz, it is music style of Eugen Cicero's his own, nobody plays like or sounds like Eugen Cicero. He plays "Twinkle, twinkle little star" with swing , blues, R&B and classic alternatively and his interperation of Bach Toccata in D-minor is way more exciting than Jacque Loussier trio. In the Riverside In Rondo, the well known spiritual is blended with Mozart- like Rondo and Boogie Woogie, music playing with humerous wisdom and excitement indeed.
