Chucho Valdes comes roaring out of the jewel box again with a stupefying demonstration of piano technique and musical sense allied with a hot-as-sun Cuban rhythm team. In sync with North American preoccupations in 1998 and 1999, this album spends a good deal of time commemorating the centenaries of the Gershwins and Duke Ellington. "Caravan" is given a super-convoluted Afro-Cuban treatment, while "Embraceable You" is unabashedly sentimental and the mambo break in "Rhapsody in Blue" could have come out of a 1956 Havana casino. The rest of the CD is devoted to various Valdes originals where the pianist's eclectic antennae pull in some unexpected signals. The cooking "El Rumbon" may mean "The Party" but the melody is closely related to, of all things, "You Are My Sunshine," and "Bolero" has a reminiscence of Chopin in the solo section. The rhythm section (Francisco Rubio Pampin, bass; Raul Pineda Roque, drums; Roberto Vizcaino Guillot, congas) consistently charges up Valdes, though this time the pianist's work does betray a bit of slickness here and there. Joaquin Olivero Gavilon adds some authentic Cuban wooden flute to "Rhapsody" and there are incantory voices on the title track. Again, this disc had to go through insane political contortions for its U.S. release, as it was recorded in Havana, it was released through the auspices of EMI Music Canada -- but at least we have it. -- allmusic.com

Skiffle (скиффл) – разновидность фольклорной музыки с элементами джаза, блюза и кантри.
Для музыкального сопровождения песен, кроме традиционных акустических инструментов (гитара, банджо…)применялись «подручные средства», такие как стиральные доски, расчёски, стеклянные стаканы, пилы и т.п.

Место зарождения этого стиля музыки точно не определено, но считается, что большой вклад в его развитие внёс в начале прошлого века Нью-Орлеанский джаз с его афро-американской музыкальной культурой.

Стал очень популярен в Великобритании в 50-х годах, где большой вклад в этот стиль внёс Lonnie Donegan. Именно с этой музыки начинали свою карьеру многие известные джазовые, блюзовые, фольклорные музыканты.

Первая группа Джона Леннона, «The Quarrymen», была скиффл-группой.

Most of these cuts ooze spicy juices at a nice laid back, sun-drenched tempo instead of the choppier more hectic stateside funk you're probably used to, but they groove no less hard. You'll recognize some classic reggae rhythms as well as deep and heavy covers of American funk pulsing underneath the Dee Jays and soulful vocalists on these great cuts, and there's no shortage of top notch instrumental versions, either!

Утверждается вот что - то что здесь отмечено как корень дерева - есть не корень, а наивысший духовный пик, расцвет. Затем, последующее развитие привело стили обратно, в языческую эпоху танцев у костра. Тряски в клубах - есть возвращение к ритуалам вуду и шаманским трансовым барабанам.

Как это произошло? Постепенно. Сначала классика была очень строгой. Потом появился Иоганн Бах который добавил чувственности. Потом более чувственный Моцарт, потом еще более чувственный Бетховен, затем совершенно уже переборщивший всякие нормы чувственности Шопен, потом на горизонте появился джаз, ставший следующим шагом отказа от строгих церковных правил и еще большего раскрепощения.

Джаз играли потомки африканских индейцев вуду привезенных рабами в Америку - когда им дали пианино, они свои шаманские штуки соединили с классикой создав ритмический стиль с соответствующими свойствами. Так в музыку просочился транс. Еще пока только в зачатке - музыкантам нравилось балдеть от импровизаций, они тогда еще не знали к чему это приведет.

Характерная стилистика джаза (с ритмическим акцентом на слабую долю и мелодике основанной на пентатонике) проникла во все стили, переделав и фолк и классику - так появились все последующие стили от рока до электронной музыки. Затем они продолжили деформироваться в сторону трансовости, пока окончательно не достигли дна - вернувшись на круги своя - шаманские пляски вокруг костра под барабан - то, что представляет собой современная клубная музыка.

Таки образом, джаз является решающим и предпоследним шагом для окончательного духовного падения мировой музыкальной культуры.

Five MAGNIFICENT Stars!! The legendary jazz keyboard master Hank Jones and legendary tenor saxophone titan, Joe Lovano, have conjured up one of the best jazz duet performances in years!! And they are caught live at the intimate Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola in the Frederick P. Rose Hall, which is the Jazz At Lincoln Center performance complex in NYC. These are timeless, beautiful, flawless performances by two jazz masters who have almost restlessly searched the jazz spectrum for fulfillment in many formats over the years. They definitely have found something very special here that just may require an encore and it happened in a great venue. Stepping away from Mr Lovano's quartet, these two incomparable musicians have all of the propulsion and rhythm that is needed to propel these excellent performances along nicely. Unencumbered by bass and drum, they bend and stretch the time at will, with Hank providing solos and colorations as well as wicked time-keeping 'stride piano' with Joe declaratively soaring above and in between, making for some wonderful mellow jazz music. '80ish' Mr Jones plays with equal fire as '50ish' Mr Lovano making this duo an empathetic match made in jazz heaven.
