Coleman Hawkins Orch - Hollywood Stampede (1945)

This is classic Hawkins. Accompanying him are his four regular sidemen: Howard McGhee, trumpet; Sir Charles Thompson, piano; Oscar Pettiford, bass; Denzil Best, drums. On the first date guitarist Allan Reuss from the Harry James Band was added to the group. On the second date trombonist Vic Dickenson made a guest appearance during the first half of the session, while the following week, when the final titles were cut, John Simmons took over the bass role from Pettiford. At recording time, both Simmons and Dickenson were playing with the Eddie Heywood group.
