The “2022 FELLOWS” (ARC-8715) album presents our four branded ensembles in a diverse program that includes works by YOUTH JAZZ FELLOWS Kenny Watson, Jr. and Henry Fears among the program of original compositions and arrangements of varied Jazz styles and sensibilities studied during the course of this season. The Kansas City Area Youth Jazz program has continued to grow in 2022, premiering both the Smith Ensemble and the Watson Ensemble along with the existing Brady Ensemble and the Crain Ensemble. This album also features music written by composers Pat Metheny, Bobby Watson, WM Thornton, William Crain, and Christopher Burnett. Several 2022 FELLOWS used the knowledge learned to compose their own music and release their own independent projects.

SongAh Chae Trio concludes its three-album project with All Day Long, a musical statement where composed structure and spontaneous improvisation exist as a unified whole. Spiritually inspired by the Psalms, the album continues the narrative arc established in In the Beginning and Calling in the Wilderness, exploring an inner landscape of silence, tension, and resolution.
Pianist SongAh Chae creates music beginning with visual imagery and themes that develop organically at the instrument through improvisation. This methodology extends to live performance—pieces remain flexible and responsive rather than fixed.
Formed in 2023 with bassist Manos Stratis and drummer Joshua Wheatley, the trio functi0ns as a unified collective voice where each instrument serves as melody, rhythm, and texture simultaneously. The music is defined by deep mutual listening and a minimalist expressive approach—ranging from quiet contemplative moments to more active, rhythm-oriented passages. The subtle introduction of organ expands the sonic palette without disrupting the trio's cohesion. European performance experience, including appearances at the EFG London Jazz Festival and a residency at Jimmy Glass Jazz Bar, shaped the material before studio recording, allowing the musicians to balance refinement with spontaneity.
