https://www.reddit.com/r/TooAfraidToAsk/com...duism_yet_rest/I think a big part of it is how humans domesticated dogs for companionship rather than domestication for food like most livestock. There’s 3 main forms of domestication: Companionship (pets), livestock (food), and work (horses that pull carts etc). At least where I’m from, there would be nearly just as much stigma around eating a horse as there would be a dog because that isn’t the purpose they were domesticated for.

I am Chinese and I have never eaten any dog meat. There are 1.4 billion people in China. If everyone eats dog meat every year, all dogs in the world will all disappear.
Dog meat is only rare in China like Louisiana people eat gators and turtle meat. Would you say that all Americans eat gator and turtle meat?
I find a source in Chinese, that Guangdong and Guangxi province eat 70% of all dog meat in China. There are 34 provinces in China, you can compare it with that: Texas and Louisiana eat 70% of all turtle and gators.
