TBILISI (AFP)--A Georgian television channel shut down after antigovernment clashes last month will be back on air before a presidential election on Jan. 5, the executive director of the Imedi channel told AFP on Friday.
"We will manage to rebuild the channel's technical capacities to go back on air before Jan. 5 elections," said the executive director, Bidzina Baratashvili, a day after a court lifted a government ban on the pro-opposition channel.

TBILISI (AFP) — Georgian television station Imedi will take a long time to go back on the air due to damage sustained during the government's seizure of its offices, the pro-opposition broadcaster said Thursday.
"It will take a long time to rebuild the channel's technical capacities enough to go back on air," managing director Bidzina Baratashvili said.
The Georgian government took Imedi television and radio off air in November after imposing a state of emergency in response to clashes in the capital Tbilisi between protestors and police.
The courts earlier Thursday cancelled a freeze on Imedi's property, a decision that follows widespread criticism from Georgia's Western allies and comes weeks before a January 5 presidential election.
"Equipment is very seriously damaged, all equipment for satellite connection and broadcasting is absent, the control room is demolished. As of today there is no possibility of going on air," Baratashvili told AFP.
Georgian government officials had argued that Imedi's coverage of clashes on November 7 amounted to incitement to overthrow the government.
Its closure sparked widespread international criticism of President Mikheil Saakashvili, including from the NATO military alliance, which Georgia has applied to join.
Imedi's radio service resumed broadcasting in Tbilisi on Thursday.
