Second of all: Thoughts? Did Facebook's in-house Paris-banner app actually help anything? Or did it foster complacency by giving people the illusion that they were helping?
And perhaps the biggest issue here: Why Paris? Why not Gaza? Or Syria? Or Ukraine? Or Afghanistan? Or Nigeria? What is the implicit message sent by Facebook in choosing to highlight the tragedy of an affluent, Western nation over so many other tragedies in the world today? Was this not an enormous demonstration of Facebook's ability to direct a large segment of the world's attention toward the causes it deems most important?
