Customs suspects that Finnish companies exported almost 3,500 drones to Russia - one person held by the police
There are six suspects in the criminal group, one of whom has been imprisoned.
Customs suspects that products exported by two Finnish companies and subject to EU sanctions have ended up in Russia worth more than three million euros.
The products include almost 3,500 drones. Their value is more than 2 million euros.
- Based on the preliminary investigation, there are indications that the activity has been directed from Russia, says director of supervision Hannu Sinkkonen from Customs.
According to Customs, a wide network of international companies has been built in the operation, through which it has been possible to finance the operation from, for example, Russia.
Two companies have exported goods from Finland. The person responsible for both is the same person who is currently incarcerated.
- Another company has acted as a procurement channel that has bought these devices. The other has taken care of organizing transport to Russia, says Sinkkonen.
The investigation has been carried out in cooperation with the British, American and Dutch authorities, as well as the European Police Agency, Europol. In Finland, the protection police have also been involved in the investigation.
According to customs, the case will move to prosecution in December. The case has been investigated as a gross regulatory crime and the crime of exporting defense equipment.

ჭურვების ფასებზე (ვიღაცეების მამინგრობები ვთხარე):
NATO, whose own procurement agency is also pursuing the acquisition of more 155mm rounds, is finding that prices have quadrupled.
In October, NATO's senior military officer, Adm. Rob Bauer, said that the price for one 155mm shell had risen from 2,000 euros ($2,171) at the start of Russia's full-scale invasion to 8,000 euros ($8,489.60).
For comparison, the U.S. currently pays $3,000 for its most modern shells, according to an Army spokesperson. That price includes the charge, fuze, and shell body.
Unlike the U.S., European 155mm production is primarily in the hands of the commercial market. That means that European countries can incentivize production increases through purchases, but cannot order factories to invest in automation, double shifts, or build new plants, as the U.S. has.
