Theories about
Left Behind * The Others took Locke to the magic box.
o The writers have confirmed that the box was a metaphor used by Ben.
+ The metaphor may still refer to something (not a true box) that has a physical location.
* Locke broke his hand when confronting Anthony Cooper.
o Locke hurt his hand in a confrontation with Ben.
* The Others went back to The Hydra.
o The Barracks is the only place on the main island that is safe from the monster. The Hydra is also safe because it is on the other island.
* The Others may have left via a subterranean passage as marked on Sayid's map. This would explain why no trace of their passage was found.
o Considering that everyone was gassed for a long time, Sayid doesn't know that they disappeared into thin air or any other way.
* The Others may have moved to the meteorological station as referenced on the Blast Door Map. The map seems to indicate that this station may located in mountainous terrain - an area not visited frequently by the Losties. This might also be a logical place for the unseen Radio Tower to be located (e.g. high ground). Rousseau has previously indicated that the Others control this location now.
* The Losties may move to The Barracks
* Ben is following Locke to ultimately see John "commune" with the island in a way Ben maybe never could or no longer can -- the latter evidenced by his unhealed wounds, the former evidenced by his ongoing (and almost convincingly genuine?) fascination with John Locke. Ben hopes Locke can lead him and the Others to the deepest answers that the Island holds: answers even Ben doesn't know of.
* Rousseau may be following the Others.
[edit] Who got "left behind"
* Kate, Juliet, Sayid, and Jack, were "left behind" when the Others left the Barracks.
* Jack Shephard, because he wants to stay with Juliet.
* Sawyer after Kate left to rescue Jack
* Juliet is a plant. If her story was true, she would have had to wake up several hours before Kate, and she would have had to know approximately how much longer Kate would still be unconscious (which seems hard to calculate as Jack is still unconscious one day later). The obvious answer is that Juliet was never unconscious herself. A person looking very much like Juliet can be seen wearing a gas mask immediately before Kate is gassed.
o If Juliet had woken up before everyone else and had her choice of who to 'bond' with, why didn't she choose Jack? He would be a natural ally and she knows she could trust him more than somebody they consider to be a criminal. If she had taken Jack he probably would not have questioned her run to the barrier, thus allowing the truth to stay hidden.
+ The choice of whom she was left with may not have been hers. The Others (Ben) may have felt that leaving her with Kate was a better option. It might make it easier for Juliet to be accepted by the rest of the Losties if Kate trusts her. It is possible that the Losties on the beach will assume that Jack has been turned, and therefore reject Juliet. If both Jack and Kate feel that she is trustworthy, she will have an easier time infiltrating the group for whatever purpose she is fulfilling.
o Juliet is a plant, either willingly or unwillingly. It seems unlikely that Ben would have just “discarded” her, rather than imprison or “reprogram” (similar to Karl). If he was truly leaving her behind, why not leave her in the barracks and drop Kate, Sayid and Jack in the jungle alone? Juliet was not surprise to find the handcuff key still on her, knew that the security fence was turned off (Others could have left via underground passages, and left the fence on), knew that Jack and Sayid were gassed, but not moved (dumped elsewhere in the jungle), and knew that they were alone (no one left to guard them).
* Apparently, Rousseau was left behind. They found the barracks with her, but left without her.
[edit] Conclusions from the Encounter with "The Monster"
* The flashes of light that Juliet saw may have been the same ones that John saw (when he said to Eko he saw a bright light).
o If true, this may provide insight on why John was not "left behind." Perhaps the light flashes signify the individual as a "good person"
* Juliet admits that they (The Others) do not know exactly what the "The Monster" is although they are aware of the fact that it cannot pass the security barrier. This may prove that the Others are in fact the DHARMA Initiative staff and the Hostiles are either a setup, or considering their recent actions, the "Losties" themselves. The setup is necessary in order for the test subjects to maintain the illusion that they are not taking part in an/the experiment. This also gives a reason for the people known as "The Others" to recruit as recently as a few years back.
o Its not clear if Juliet knows everything the Others (for example Ben) know.
o Impossible, because Mikhail is the member of The Others, and he lied about his membership of DI.
+ Or, he lied about lying about being part of DHARMA.
# The podcast said he was telling the truth about everything except being part of DHARMA.
* Or, The Monster was created by DHARMA (is not a natural occurrence on the island) and the Others weren't part of DHARMA, so this would explain why they don't know what it is.
o The notations on the blast door about the Cerbrus system and its catastrophic malfunction seem to somewhat support the idea that DHARMA created it but that its beyond the control of anyone now.
* The Monster was never "created" by anyone.
* The 'sonic barrier' was off, suggesting Mikhail may not have been killed when Locke pushed him through.
o The Others may have turned off the sonic barrier when they left the barracks.
* Juliet entered 1623 on keypad and some other numbers, we haven't seen, possible all of The Numbers. So The Numbers could be someway connected to "The Monster" or be some kind of universal DHARMA password.
* The "Monster" attacked in order to help Kate - it forced Juliet to reveal her lies.
