Anime (アニメ?, an abbreviated pronunciation in Japanese of "animation", pronouned [anime] ( listen) in Japanese, but typically /ˈænɪmeɪ/ or /ˈænɪmə/ in English) is animation originating in Japan. The rest of the world regard anime to be "Japanese animation".[1] Anime originated about 1917.
In Japan, the term does not specify an animation's nation of origin or style; instead, it serves as a blanket term to refer to all forms of animation from around the world.[13][14] In English, dictionary sources define anime as "a Japanese style of motion-picture animation" or "a style of animation developed in Japan"
