After playing Joey Tribbiani for an entire decade on Friends, Matt LeBlanc took on the spin-off role of Joey, but when the show ended after just two seasons, he was completely burnt out. He revealed to The Mirror: "For years and years, I barely left the house. I was burnt out. I wanted to not have a schedule, not be somewhere."
The isolation wasn't a choice born of arrogance or entitlement. LeBlanc was struggling with personal crises. His marriage to Melissa McKnight was falling apart and his daughter Marina was diagnosed with cortical dysplasia, a brain development abnormality that causes seizures.
Stepping away from Hollywood became necessary for survival during this incredibly difficult period. He told his agent to "lose my number for a few years" and described the withdrawal as "a very dark time." The actor knew what he needed to do to protect his mental health.
LeBlanc eventually made a major comeback in 2011 with the comedy series Episodes, playing a fictional version of himself. His return marked the beginning of his resurgence in the entertainment world.
Today, he credits those years of isolation as the turning point that allowed him to rebuild his life away from the spotlight's relentless demands. The decision to step back saved him when he needed it most.
