Michael Jordan is the person who I look up to as a good leader. Of course, he isn’t a man like Napoleon or Alexander the Great who conquered the whole continents, but I found lots of traits that a good leader needs to have in him and he used to show them on the court during playing basketball.
Firstly, the most significant characteristic of Jordan was the great desire of winning. He won everything a basketball player can dream about and that was the result of his next important feature: he knew how to win, how to achieve his main aim.
Except that, he had some other very useful and important traits that a leader should have: spirit, responsibility, creativity, psychological stability and self-confidence. All these used to help him become the hero of the night by making game-winning jump-shots at the end of the game. That means he wasn’t afraid of taking responsibility and making the most important and risky decisions on the way to the aim: winning. And he did that all the time without any mistake, because his made decisions were always right.
After all, the victories formed the psychology of winner in him, that’s also very important feature that a leader should have, because no one can reveal his leadership potential wholly without self-confidence that comes after winning the competitions and it doesn’t matter whether it is sports competition or not.
Of course, Michael Jordan was very talented (without any talent he couldn’t have become the NBA superstar), but besides it, he was very hard-working person and this truly helped him become all-time sports hero. Hard-working is the feature that every person should have to achieve his goals. A person can have all the leadership skills but without working hard, he can’t realize his potential and opportunities. When Michael Jordan played in his high school team, no one considered him as a future NBA player, but during his sophomore year in college of North Carolina, he was named as College Player of the Year and a year later, he was chosen by the Chicago Bulls. And he managed to achieve all these by hard working.
And last but not least, he had a great impact on the people of his time: his teammates in the Bulls and other NBA players admired him, ordinary people went to see the Bulls games because of Michael Jordan and kids began to play basketball because they wanted to be Like Mike. He had the skills that helped him become the NBA superstar, but at the same time, these skills are necessary to be a true leader. And he was the true leader.
