Shortly after the Shattering, Velen traveled to Darnassus to meet with the other leaders of the Alliance. Surprisingly, he had not been invited; Tyrande mentioned that they had assumed the draenei as a whole had declared themselves neutral after defeating Kil'jaeden. Velen dismissed the assumption and declared the draenei's allegiance to helping the Alliance, stating that they would remain on Azeroth for so long as they were needed. Nevertheless, he was treated as an honoured guest, even Malfurion wished to seek his opinion about the troubling matters with the Highborne murders.
It was after Anduin overheard the argument between Malfurion and Varian, that he made his decision and informed his father about his choice to leave. He then heads towards the Temple Gardens to inform Velen of his decision. After making sure that the young prince was certain of his choice, Velen offered to take Anduin under his wing for a time and noted that he has a great destiny ahead of him within the Light.
Varian then suggested to Anduin that he should study with Archbishop Benedictus, in order to get his son to stay in Stormwind, but the prince declined, stating that Benedictus was not right for what he needed to learn, and that he needed to go elsewhere, as previously informed by Rohan, and that elsewhere was with the prophet Velen.
