Steve Finnan told Liverpoolfc.tv: "No-one said anything to Stevie about the own goal. It could have happened to anyone. He is a quality player and this sort of thing won't affect him.
"I spoke to Gerrard afterwards, just as I spoke to the rest of the players and I said that they should be proud," revealed
Rafael Benitez. "It's a pity for the team and the fans. It's not a problem for any one player. At the end, to score in your own goal is bad luck, that is all. The players have done their best and I have told them that they should be proud. We have done a lot of things right."
Gerrard himself said: "We scored early, maybe too early, and then tried to run the clock down. We were ten minutes away from winning the Cup ourselves but credit to Chelsea, they played well.
"It's obviously very painful for me to score the own goal. It's been a bad day for me and the team but we have to pick ourselves up now and stay strong."
