As you can imagine, we get hundreds of
applications every week so let's explain how we evаluate these requests.
Our equipment is of the highest quality and expensive to supply and ship. Obviously we want to choose those that add most coverage and we'd like to check the suitability of your location, the proposed antenna position and your aviation interests and experience.
The antenna must be installed outside, clear of all obstacles such as trees, buildings and high ground, all of which can block data from aircraft. Some locations may not permit the installation of an external antenna so please check this first. Installations on apartment balconies or inside roof spaces are not good.
We also include a GPS antenna which has to be placed outside with a good view of the sky to get a fix on the GPS satellites.
The receiver should be placed inside no further than 10 metres from the antenna. It is connected directly to your router/modem by an Ethernet cable so you must have a free RJ45 port and be connected to the Internet 24x7. We do not use your computer but the receiver must be connected to a power supply.
For us to check your location and antenna position, please send us 4 photos, looking due north, east, south and west from where the external antenna will be located. Please do not climb on your roof or mast; photos taken on the ground will be OK. Please name the photos "north", "east" etc.
Then we need just one more photo, showing us where you will install the antenna. Please mark where it will be positioned. Without this photo we cannot progress your application.
Finally, please tell us about your location. Is it close to a busy airport (how far away) or underneath a major air route? Do you have any relevant experience, such as ex-ATC, pilot or hold an amateur radio licence?
That's all we need for now. As soon as we receive your reply we will let you know if your location is suitable or not.
And as soon as we can allocate a receiver, we'll send you more information together with an application form so we can arrange shipping.
