A couple of days ago, it was discovered that the new beta dashboards that test the upcoming XGD3 format dummied the DVD key of any drives with a hacked firmware. Now, users are reporting that the dashboards are also capable of fully updating the firmware when it is installed to the Xbox.
Ranger72 from Xbox-Scene reported that a new 0272 firmware has been flashed to drives that were originally manufactured with the 9504 firmware. He also mentions that all the current methods to read the 9504 and 0225 firmwares do not work with the new firmware.

As always, do not update to these beta dashboards (2.0.13141.0 / 2.0.13142.0) if you want to retain the functionality of retail and backup games.
