It is understood the £9.5million signing from Deportivo La Coruna will spend next season on loan at the Dutch club, who failed to land him during the January transfer, with a view to making a permanent switch.

The 23-year-old, an integral member of the Jong Oranje side that won the U21 crown last term, has travelled to Germany for further tests on the joint. The Netherlands begin the defence of their title against Israel on 10 June.

The 21-year-old has made just three starts for the newly-crowned Eredivisie champions since moving to the Philips Stadion last summer, and will now be sent back to his native Brazil.
"Diego would have loved to stay with us, but now he will return to his old club Sao Paulo," PSV's technical director Stan Valckx told Dagblad newspaper.
