Totti was on Real shortlist Friday 20 October, 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Arrigo Sacchi has revealed that he urged Real Madrid to sign Roma ace Francesco Totti during his time in the Spanish capital.
Sacchi moved to Madrid in 2004 as the club’s technical director and has admitted that the No 10 was at the top of his list when the Santiago Bernabeu outfit were looking for Zinedine Zidane’s heir.
“I pushed a lot to sign Totti and I looked at him until February [when he fractured his ankle],” the former Italian national boss told Play Radio.
The Giallorossi icon did recover from his bad break to make the World Cup squad, but he’s yet to rediscover his best.
Nevertheless, Sacchi insists that Er Pupone will resume with his greatness given time. “I'm sure we will soon be seeing the sensational Totti that we all know”, added the ex-Milan boss.
Sacchi made his name with the Rossoneri as a tactician after he led them to domestic, European and world honours.
Needless to say, the outfit still remain close to his heart and he’s keeping his fingers crossed that they are over their so-called crisis.
“In name of the love I have for Milan I hope they will be able to improve Alberto Gilardino, Ricardo Oliveira and Marek Jankulovski’s self-esteem,” he noted. “I think that would be very important for their results.
“As to the other top European clubs, I like Chelsea and Liverpool – although the Reds don’t have any great champions aside from Steven Gerrard.
“Inter and Manchester have some excellent individual players, but 11 soloists rarely make up a good orchestra,” noted the 60-year-old.
“I also admire Arsenal a lot as they are a competitive side despite the fact that they have no important patrons behind them to support them financially.”

Young-Pyo in fresh Roma link Friday 20 October, 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tottenham defender Lee Young-Pyo reportedly wants to join Roma in January – after initially turning down the switch last summer.
The Spurs stopper was close to signing for the club in August after his agent Chin Sung-Won confirmed that that the two clubs had agreed in principle to the switch.
However, the South Korean international backed out of the move at the last minute after allegedly having a religious dream in which he was told to reject the transfer.
Nevertheless, reports in the Italian capital now suggest that the 29-year-old is willing to make the move to the Eternal City.
Roma sporting director Daniele Pradé is set to meet with the player’s agent again, which could see Young-Pyo leave England as early as January.
Meanwhile, Roma have also been associated with Fluminense ace Marcelo and 23-year-old Jeremy Mathieu of Toulouse.
