Mido glad to be back Tuesday 1 August, 2006

Ahmed Mido says he’s ready to show Roma that he deserved a second chance in the capital after returning from his loan spell with Tottenham.
The Egyptian was initially not part of the Giallorossi plans for the next season as they were prepared to sell him to Blackburn.
However, no deal was done – mainly at the request of the player – and Coach Luciano Spalletti agreed to his return.
The African joined his teammates for pre-season training last week and was part of the team fielded by Spalletti against Porto in Sunday’s summer friendly.
Mido came on to the pitch with 30 minutes left to play and impressed the Coach in the 1-0 defeat after Philippe Mexes fired through his own net.
“I like Mido a lot and he has the characteristics that we are looking for,” said the former Udinese boss. “He trained a lot during this first week with the team and I will follow him closely.”
Mido insisted he’s already feeling in great shape for the season after training on his own in Egypt before flying back to the peninsula.
“I am grateful for this second chance with Roma,” said the 23-year-old. “I refused the transfer to Blackburn, even though the money was higher, because I want to stay here and face this challenge.”
Mido added that he has always had a special feeling with the Eternal City and is glad to be back.
“Compared to when I left in January 2005, I think the club has a different atmosphere,” he commented.
”Spalletti is a very good Coach and he speaks a lot with his team. He told me that he considers every single player and judges us day after day.”
Roma, though, are still looking for another name for the centre of their attack and are close to signing Lecce striker Mirko Vucinic.
