It will take Leo Messi three months to recover from his injury
FC Barcelona's medical services informed yesterday that Lionel Messi will take an estimated three months to recover from the injury he suffered against Zaragoza. This was the official statement after a series of tests performed on the player:
Messi has fractured the fifth metatarsal of his left foot. He will need surgery and the estimated time he will be out of action is approximately three months
Therefore, Messi may be back in action in the beginning of February 2007. He will miss out on the crucial last two games of the Champions League's group stage and the FIFA Club World Cup to be played in Japan in December, besides a significant number of Liga fixtures. This is the second serious injury Leo has picked up this year, after a muscle tear suffered in a Champions League clash with Chelsea back in February kept him out until the end of Barça's successful 2005/06 season.
