Van Bommel: farewell to a friend
Mark van Bommel said his goodbyes to the Barca squad and coaching staff on Sunday morning. Despite having spent just one season in Barcelona, the Dutch international midfielder is leaving behind many good friends.
As usually happens when a player leaves the Club, Frank Rijkaard called the entire squad together a few minutes before training started to give Van Bommel a formal send-off. Rijkaard spoke warmly of his fellow countryman and highlighted his impact on the team spirit within the squad. Visibly moved, Mark then spoke briefly to thank his team-mates for such an incredible season and insisted that he was leaving behind friends, not colleagues.

Club president Laporta and director of football Txiki Begiristain were also on hand to say their own personal goodbyes. Mark van Bommel is due to fly to Munich later on today for a medical, following which he will sign his new contract with the German champions.
