Glen Johnson arrested for attempted toilet seat theft
LONDON, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Portsmouth defender Glen Johnson has been fined by police for trying to steal a toilet seat and bath taps from a store, according to media reports on Friday.
Johnson, on loan from Chelsea, tried to smuggle the bathroom accessories out of a B & Q home improvement store with the help of Millwall striker Ben May on Wednesday, British media said.
A police spokesman said: "Kent Police arrested two 22-year-old men on Wednesday on suspicion of theft in Dartford. Both men have been issued with 80 pound ($157.9) fixed penalty notices".
Johnson, who has played five times for England, was Chelsea's first signing following the club's takeover by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich in July, 2003. He arrived from West Ham United for six million pounds.

Brown launches England bid to host 2018 World Cup
(Reuters) - England should host the 2018 World Cup soccer finals, British finance minister and prime minister-in-waiting Gordon Brown said on Friday.
"The next decade could become the best ever for British sport, with the Olympics in 2012 followed by the World Cup in 2018. We can and will win the World Cup for England," he told reporters.
London beat competition from Paris, New York, Madrid and Moscow to host the 2012 Olympics and Brown's ministry will release a feasibility study next week backing a bid to host the 2018 World Cup, Treasury officials said.
With the deadline for British Prime Minister Tony Blair to step down approaching and another credible candidate yet to emerge, the Labour chancellor of the exchequer looks a sure bet to get the top job and has been burnishing his populist credentials.
But the 55-year old Scot said he would be cheering Scotland if they played England at the World Cup.
Brown's calls to support England in last year's finals in Germany angered some Scots and he will want to avoid creating another controversy ahead of Scottish local elections in May.
The next World Cup in 2010 will be hosted by South Africa with the 2014 tournament headed for South America where Brazil are the favorites although Colombia has also launched a bid.
