Perrotta out of Azzurri games Wednesday 4 October, 2006

Simone Perrotta has also been ruled out of Italy’s Euro 2008 qualifiers against Ukraine and Georgia with an ankle and thigh injury.
The Roma midfielder collided with Massimo Oddo during today’s training session and initial reports of a light sprain proved too optimistic.
“In falling to the ground after suffering a sprain to his left ankle, Perrotta elongated the muscle in the right thigh,” explained Professor Ferretti.
“We’ll evaluate between Thursday and Friday the full extent of the injury. The risk here is of a thigh strain.”
Although the tests aren’t in yet, it’s fairly certain that Perrotta is out of next Wednesday’s clash with Georgia in Tbilisi.
He would've skipped the tie with the Ukraine on Saturday anyway due to a ban.
This is the second injury to hit Roberto Donadoni’s squad, as Inter’s Fabio Grosso was sent home after suffering a thigh strain.

Sheva to miss Azzurri clash? Wednesday 4 October, 2006

Andriy Shevchenko is a doubt for Saturday’s match against Italy after coming down with a flu virus.
“Perhaps he has a cold or a flu virus,” revealed Ukraine Coach Oleg Blokhin when explaining the former Milan striker has a high temperature.
“If our medical staff is unable to lower his temperature over the next few days, he could be out of the match.”
Shevchenko’s return to Italy for the first time since his £30m Premiership record move to Milan was eagerly awaited.
It’s a must-win Euro 2008 qualifier for Italy, who have just one point after two games, but the Ukraine have won their only tie so far.
“We’re coming to Rome in order to fight and win, of that you can be certain,” assured Blokhin.
“Italy are not unbeatable. We will be aiming for the victory. I think we have a good chance of finishing second in Group B.”
