Premiership Reaction - Video
Chelsea hit-man Andrei Shevchenko is aiming to take his revenge against Liverpool when the two Premiership rivals meet on Grand Slam Sunday, live on Sky Sports 1.
The Ukrainian star was left heartbroken when playing for Milan in the famous 2005 UEFA Champions League final, as his missed penalty confirmed The Reds as European champions after a breathtaking night in Istanbul.
Shevchenko was also denied in the Community Shield on his Chelsea debut, as despite his goal Rafa Benitez's side ran out 2-1 winners as they continued their run of cup success against the Premiership champions.
Liverpool have come out on top in both FA Cup and Champions League semi-finals over the past two seasons as the two bosses have cultivated a fierce rivalry, but Shevchenko is now desperate to help Jose Mourinho continue his league hoodoo over Benitez and, in the process, end his own personal jinx against the Merseysiders.
"I've watched it [the 2005 UEFA Champions League final] many times since, and the more I watch it, the more difficult it is to find explanations," said Shevchenko.
"I've got great respect for Liverpool, but for a team winning 3-0 at half time and playing very good football, it's something I can't explain.
"I still can't believe the result. But that's the past.
"Liverpool are a very good team. One of the most important clubs in the world.
"But I'd like, for once in my life, to win against them. I've played against them twice, and twice I've lost."
Despite only moving to England over the summer, the former Rossoneri hero says he feels at home in the capital and can envisage ending his career at Stamford Bridge.
"I am different from someone like Hernan Crespo, I want to stay at Chelsea for a long time," Shevchenko added.
"You always need motivation in your life. Right now Chelsea are my motive and finishing my career here in England is also my big motivation.
"I have always liked English football and used to watch a lot of it on television when I was growing up in Ukraine.
"I like the ambience of London and the way the people are here. They respect other people."
Whilst Shevchenko has not quite made the impact expected for The Blues in his first weeks at the club, his manager Mourinho has faith that he will soon add to his solitary Premiership goal and strike fear into the hearts of English defenders on a regular basis.
"I expect him to start scoring soon, naturally without pressure, he will go somewhere and score two or three goals and be in a scoring period," said Mourinho.
"Another point is about dynamics and automatic movement.
"You talk about playing in a blindfold, knowing what your fellow player is doing.
"You know where to cross the ball because, when Shevchenko does this, he goes to that space and, when he makes this movement, he wants the ball on that spot.
"It's the kind of communication and routine we need."
