Toro's dedication to Zac Wednesday 28 February, 2007

New Torino Coach Gianni De Biasi has dedicated their long-awaited win to predecessor Alberto Zaccheroni, who was fired on Monday.
“This is a victory that can be credited to me and Zaccheroni, because one cannot wipe out the work my colleague did on the bench,” he said of the 1-0 result against Cagliari.
De Biasi was sacked three days before the start of the Serie A season, but Zac failed to win over the fans or players.
He was finally given the axe after six consecutive defeats and President Urbano Cairo went back on his tracks by returning De Biasi to his post.
“Today I only made a few choices aimed at improving certain aspects of the team. I have to say, I am very satisfied with what I saw.”
Goalkeeper Christian Abbiati was decisive with a series of incredible saves to keep the Granata in front.
“It’s not easy to be a goalkeeper after six straight defeats,” said the former Juventus and Milan man.
“I dedicate this win to Zaccheroni and his staff, who were unlucky in that negative streak. We only struggled towards the end of the match because we were tired and afraid of slipping again.”
Curiously, their opponents Cagliari were also welcoming back a Coach. Marco Giampaolo was sacked mid-season, then brought in again on Monday after eight games with Franco Colomba in charge.
“In one day I wasn’t going to perform miracles. We were a little chaotic in the first half, but after the break we showed great spirit by going for the equaliser at all costs. Abbiati was man of the match,” said Giampaolo.
