De Biasi: It's crunch time Saturday 10 May, 2008
Gianni De Biasi trusts Torino can all but book their place in Serie A next season by beating Livorno.
“The Amaranto will pour their heart and soul into this match and have some excellent individuals,” explained the tactician.
“This is why we must be humble and not assume they are done for just because they have many suspended players.”
Not only are Livorno propping up the table and could be mathematically relegated tomorrow, but they have been decimated by bans to Alessandro Grandoni, Emanuele Filippini, Antonio Filippini, Giovanni Pasquale, David Balleri and Simone Pavan.
To make matters worse, Livorno have not beaten Toro in the top flight since 1934.
“If we approach it the right way, this game can all but put a rubber stamp on our safety,” continued De Biasi.
“Let us not forget that your position in the table counts for little during the 90 minutes. Nothing must be taken for granted, so we have to fight.”
The Granata earned a crucial victory last week to clamber out of the danger zone and one more win would take them up to 40 points.
“The team has worked well and prepared for this encounter aware of what we have to do. I ask Alessandro Rosina and David Di Michele to focus on ensuring the result is safe first, then think about entertainment value later.”
This is De Biasi’s third stint on the Torino bench after he was hired and fired twice before, so will he remain?
“I don’t want to think about next season. For me the only important thing is concentrating on the objective, which is Sunday’s result.”
