Football Italia rounds up the winners and the losers from Week 10 of the Serie A season
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The winners…
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Inter)
Despite yet again failing to hit the back of the net, the Swede was the star of the show in Inter’s 2-0 win over Ascoli. He delighted the crowd with his repertoire of tidy footwork and created numerous scoring opportunities for his teammates. He’s undoubtedly a vital cog in Coach Roberto Mancini’s plans.
Domenico Morfeo (Parma)
The Atalanta youth team product again underlined his status as the Fantasista of the Provinces with an awesome display in the 2-2 draw at Siena. He’s the leader of his youthful team and it is going to be his dribbling and scoring prowess which will keep the side in the top flight.
Armando Pantanelli (Catania)
If Catania collected the three points at Reggina then two of those were netted directly by Pantanelli. The well travelled ‘keeper, who hadn’t played in Serie A before this term, stopped everything in his path at the Granillo with a solid display of glove work.
The losers…
Dario Simic (Milan)
It was an afternoon to archive for the Croatian international at Atalanta. Nicola Ventola took advantage of his slack marking by blasting his side in front, while Andrea Soncin’s second goal for the home boys also came via a Simic deflection.
Christian Terlizzi (Sampdoria)
Labelled as “stupid” by his own Coach after his horror show at former club Palermo. Not only did the stopper fail to keep out both goals despite being placed on the line, he ended the game with a red card for verbally abusing the assistant referee. No wonder the Rosanero let him go in the summer…
Antonio Di Natale (Udinese)
He was supposed to be Udinese’s most in-form player, but Di Natale was only noted on Sunday for an act of folly. With his side desperately needing his inspiration, the Italian international took out his frustration by kicking out at Stefano Morrone. A red card duly followed.
The goals…
Ighli Vannucchi (Empoli)
He’s Empoli’s most creative player and his late goal against Lazio underlined exactly why. Although hampered by tired legs, the Italian controlled the ball on his thigh on the edge of the box to then immediately volley into the top corner past Angelo Peruzzi. A true No 10’s goal.
Daniele De Rossi (Roma)
Daniele De Rossi lived up to his long ranger capability against Fiorentina with a 30-yard screamer. With his side 1-0 down, the Italian tried his luck from a central position which just had enough power to deny the fingertips of Sebastien Frey.
Nicola Ventola (Atalanta)
The former Inter flop opened the scoring against Milan with a strike of the highest calibre. Alex Calderoni’s clearance was flicked on by Giulio Migliaccio for Ventola to free himself of Simic and drive his shot from the edge of the area past Nelson Dida.
The numbers…
Four-za Zanetti
Javier Zanetti scored his first Inter League goal for four years in the win over Ascoli. His last strike was on November 6, 2002, when the Nerazzurri beat Empoli 4-3 in Tuscany. The Argentine now has 11 goals in 360 Serie A games.
Beaten black and blue
Atalanta hadn’t beaten Milan for 21 years before the 2-0 in Bergamo on Sunday. Their previous triumph dated back to April 28, 1985, when an 83rd minute Magrin goal split the two teams. Since then there had been four draws and 11 Rossoneri victories.
Absent Adriano
Inter’s win over Ascoli was their fourth from four games without the services of out-of-form Adriano. The Brazilian is now back in training though after returning from his vacation in Brazil on Thursday evening.
