Rossi riles up Biancocelesti
Saturday 15 December, 2007
Delio Rossi wants to see “an angry Lazio” after their Euro exit as their season begins again in tonight’s showdown with Juventus.
The Biancocelesti have struggled to maintain their momentum in the Champions League, Serie A and Coppa Italia, so their midweek elimination from Europe means they must now focus on getting back into the top half of the table.
“I don’t know if our efforts in Europe will weigh on us, but the elimination could give us more motivation,” said the Coach, who went out after a 3-1 defeat at Real Madrid.
“I experienced it as a normal part of life. Playing at the Bernabeu was like a training session. I get far more emotional when I step into the Stadio Olimpico.
“Juve look like us last season, they play without unnecessary frills and are not distracted by other competitions, so they can train daily. It shows.”
Rossi had been linked with the Bianconeri bench in the past before Claudio Ranieri took the helm for their return to Serie A.
“I have married Lazio and there was no courtship from Juventus. My mind is focused solely and exclusively on Lazio,” he insisted.
“Ranieri is an experienced Coach who has done well in Italy and abroad. He is now making the most of his chance with Juve.”
Luciano Zauri and Valon Behrami are out of action, but the tactician admits he could make some changes from that midweek Madrid trip.
“Stefano Mauri is still recovering and I preferred Mourad Meghni against Real because he was in better shape.”
There are reports Mauri could move on during the January transfer window, but he may not be the only one.
“My ideas have not changed and the club knows what they are. I don’t know if there will be any important reinforcements, but if a player wants to leave then we won’t tie him down. Lazio must be considered a target rather than a stepping stone.”
