Pandev's Lazio quit threat Saturday 17 May, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Goran Pandev has warned Lazio if he isn’t sold this summer, he’ll use the FIFA clause to escape at a cut-price deal in 2009.
The striker has long been linked with a move away from the under-performing Biancocelesti, most notably to Bayern Munich.
“I will play at Lazio for another year, then I will go,” he was quoted as saying in Macedonian newspaper Vest.
“That way my transfer will be less expensive. My manager is discussing the matter with the club. If I do renew my contract, it must be much higher than the current figures.”
As Pandev has been at Lazio for long enough to qualify for this FIFA clause, he could buy out his contract for a minimal fee in 2009.
With this threat hanging over their heads, the Biancocelesti may well opt to cash in on the forward now.
President Claudio Lotito was also vague over the future of Pandev at the Stadio Olimpico.
“I never said he would definitely leave. We just need to discuss how to continue our rapport,” said the patron in the Gazzetta dello Sport.
