Ledesma’s dream derby Monday 11 December, 2006

Lazio midfielder Cristian Ledesma has admitted that his first Rome derby couldn’t have gone better after his stunning strike helped set-up a 3-0 win.
The Biancocelesti ran out comfortable winners over their neighbours after the Argentine scored a spectacular goal from 25 metres, allowing his side to take the lead at the end of the first half.
“I feel something special. Scoring a goal like this leaves you very excited, even the day after,” said Ledesma in an interview to Radio Radio.
“I would have never imagined something like this could happen, so I am even happier. We were more focused than Roma and we were able to attack at the right moment.
“The derby is always a special match, where predictions often prove to be wrong,” explained the 24-year-old, who had previously not impressed since his summer move from Lecce.
“I did not offer many great performances, but I wasn’t a disaster either. The most important thing is being able to accept criticism and I do so, trying to improve.
“It wasn’t easy to join Lazio, there are many radios and newspapers in Rome making it very different from Lecce, but I came here to put myself to the test.
“I had the normal difficulties that any player encounters when he moves to a new outfit.
“But I will slowly prove that I can be an important player,” added the midfielder, who commented on the fact that some Roma players complained about Delio Rossi’s behaviour after the match.
“I heard the news today, but knowing the Coach I cannot believe he said something to our opponents.
“In any case, I didn’t see anything because I was in the locker room – celebrating with my teammates,” concluded Ledesma.
