WE HAVE TO PLAY BETTER
Carlo Ancelotti revealed at the press conference ahead of the Siena game that Ronaldo will make his debut from the start while Kaladze will come in for Maldini. Dida is a major doubt for Glasgow but Inzaghi should be fine
MILANELLO - This is what Carlo Ancelotti had to say in the press conference ahead of Siena-Milan: 'We have four strikers available in the league and we nearly always play with two in attack. We have three available in Europe, so in some cases we can play with a lone striker. The three Brazilians can do great things, they have speed and quality. Ronaldo is doing well enough, he's not in top condition but he can play and when he's fitter he can do great things. It's not living something like it's in the past. Kakà, Ronaldo and Ricardo Oliveira are all very good, hopefully they will do great things especially Ronaldo who will make his debut from the first minute at Siena. Ronaldo's arrival has brought enthusiasm, he's a top star and is doing very well. We cannot expect extraordinary things because he has played little in the last six months, maybe he won't have great consistency and come up against difficulty but he has the top moves and we could see that in the next few weeks. Ronaldo has all the quality and at the moment is just lacking consistency.'
As for Siena: 'They are well organised epecially in defence. They are very aggressive in midfield and don't give much space away, it is their organisation that has brought them a lot of points in the championship.'
Turning to the team: 'Seedorf has a muscular problem but will recover for Glasgow. Kakà needs to find the brightness in his play because he has no fitness problems. He has to play in a more simple way without complicating the play. I have seen that lately maybe he has not been able to turn it on, maybe a touch too many so he needs to simplify his play. He needs to refind the rhymn of the game and play more in a line, he was out for a month with a foot problem and came back against Lazio when not in the best condition. There won't be many changes between Siena and Glasgow, this game against Siena is important and we want to win it. Kaladze will play tomorrow, we'll rest Maldini. The conditions were not right for Kaladze to play last Sunday, Bonera and Maldini are doing well. Now we have to improve, I want to see us play well at Siena. No one is unmovable, Kaladze is important but we have managed to cover his absence but he remains a focal point for the future. Ricardo Oliveira played well for an hour against Livorno because his fitness has improved a lot. President Berlusconi has noted that team does not provide the knock-out so we have to be more efficient when it comes to finishing. It's not a problem with tactics and we naturally play towards a rhombus, with a attacking player in support of two strikers. We have to improve, we played well against Livorno in stages but consistency is foundamental because we want to progress in the Champions League and we have to take control especially in a difficult environment such as Glasgow. In the past, we have progressed thanks to our play.'
On Nesta: 'His situation is different from that of Gattuso. Gattuso was not operated on and went through rehabilitation, we did well and came back ahead of time. Nesta was operated on December 16, his recovery period was three months and he will be ready to play on March 16, at the moment he is recovering under one of the best in the world as indiciated by the surgeon who operated on him.'
With regards to the defence: 'We fell off against Livorno for things that cannot be explained. We shouldn't be conceding goals like that, the team has to improve what it is doing in the championship and do well in the Champions League, to at least get amongst the top four. We have two excellent players on the right, in Oddo and Cafu, Bonera is a central defender. As for the injured players, Dida will find it difficult to recover for Glasgow, instead I think Inzaghi will be ready.'
On other themes: 'I don't feel under discussion, I have to make the team play better. I am the coach and I know what to do. Eto'o? He made a mistake not to play. When this happens it is not the coach's problem anymore but the club's.'
