DD bans Juve complacency Sunday 4 March, 2007

Didier Deschamps has urged Juventus not to lose their hunger for victory, even as their return to Serie A edges closer.
“It’s positive to be on top of the table, especially as we’re now eight points ahead of Piacenza,” commented the Coach after their 4-0 victory.
“Piacenza have some very good players with excellent pace and the result is harsh on them. They pushed us and made real problems, having more of the possession in the first half, but after our goal in the second they had to attack and that left us extra space to move in.”
However, the Frenchman warned his men that such a large winning margin against a direct promotion contender does not mean their work has been done.
“We have to maintain this aggression and desire to win. That hunger and eagerness to get as many points as possible is crucial. If we keep this rhythm, then we can extend our advantage over the others even more.”
Despite starting the campaign with a Calciopoli penalty – later reduced to nine points – the Bianconeri are already two points clear of Napoli at the top of the table.
There were warning signs, though, as Pavel Nedved seemed particularly tense during the Stadio Olimpico clash.
“It’s not easy for him to always be on the end of some very nasty tackles, so there is the risk he’ll react,” mused Deschamps.
“He has to be careful, because he’s important for the way we play and in the past he has been hit with some heavy bans. Pavel needs to improve in this respect, but as for his professionalism, every Coach would want a player like him.”
