Crouch confident of Euro gloryPeter Crouch admits the success of Liverpool's season hinges on the outcome of their UEFA Champions League campaign. The Reds bowed out of the FA Cup and Carling Cup in January and remain a distant third in the Premiership behind Manchester United and Chelsea.
However, Liverpool are set to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League after beating Barcelona in the last round and opening up a 3-0 lead in the first leg of their quarter-final against PSV Eindhoven.
Crouch believes Liverpool have to win the competition for their season to be viewed as successful, but is confident Rafa Benitez's European know-how can steer them all the way.
"There does have to be a bit of silverware in the cabinet every season at Liverpool," Crouch said in The Daily Mail.
"It is a bad season if we have not won something.
"We've won the European Cup five times - hopefully we can go on and make it six."I'm confident we can because we have beaten the favourites Barcelona and we can beat anyone on our day."The manager's knowledge of the European game has to help. He knows pretty much everything about every player in Europe."
Crouch is also determined for England to get their Euro 2008 qualifying campaign back on track following a poor start, and has backed Steve McClaren's approach over predecessor Sven Goran Eriksson.
"The new manager is a lot more hands-on than the old one. You can speak to this manager more," he explained.
"The other was more stand-offish. He picked his own team and that was that.
"It would be unthinkable not to qualify, especially coming off the back of a disappointing World Cup."
