Ryan Giggs is confident that Manchester United still have a great chance of progressing past Roma in the Champions League.
The Giallorossi were the winners at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday, but Wayne Rooney’s goal kept the Reds’ hopes of qualifying alive in view of the return leg next week.
“Many teams would have folded but we kept passing the ball in the second half and defended well. We really showed our character,” said Giggs.
“Wayne scored a terrific goal at an important time and it has given us a great chance of going through,” added the 33-year-old.
“Tonight we felt a great atmosphere and this is the sort of game you want to be involved in. I am sure it will be the same on Tuesday – it’s always special at Old Trafford.
“We have to go out and play like we’ve been playing all season,” added the Welsh winger.
Paul Scholes will be forced to miss next week’s match, but Roma will also be missing a key player, as Simone Perrotta will be sidelined through suspension.
“It’s a blow to lose Scholes but we've been losing a lot of players lately and have been coping with that fact. We will have Darren Fletcher and Louis Saha coming back so there is no reason why we shouldn’t feel confident,” concluded Giggs.
